Support to Integrated Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (IFARMC) of San Miguel Bay |
|
The IFARMC of San Miguel Bay is a policy recommendatory body to the local government units. Municipalities along SMB include Basud and Mercedes in Camarines Norte and Cabusao, Calabanga, Sipocot, Siruma and Tinambac in Camarines Sur. Its membership is composed of representatives from the LGU and MFARMC from each municipality. ISO works alongside the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of Region V in assisting the IFARMC . The International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) also lends its support to the IFARMC in terms of financial and technical assistance.

Project Activities:
Networking. The ISO assists the IFARMC in networking with the LGUs, Government Agencies (GAs), and Non Government Organizations (NGO). This has culminated in several activities such as a Stakeholder's Conference and a Covenant signing with the Mayors of Municipalities in San Miguel Bay in 2006.
Policy Advocacy. One of the main functions of the IFARMC is the recommendation of policies beneficial to the municipal fishers in San Miguel Bay. One of these policies is the United Municipal Fisheries Ordinance (UMFO) that establishes guidelines for consolidated patrolling and surveillance within San Miguel Bay. In 2007, the NGOs for Fisheries Reform (NFR) held a dialogue with the IFARMC SMB on the former's model municipal fisheries ordinance. Hopefully, this leads to the formulation of the UMFO. |
